A New Morning

Xazirit awakens to a glorious morning. The dew glistens on the new grass. But the normally sandy soil is very moist and sticky. Must have rained. Xazirit emerges from the abandoned burrow he found recently, and looks around in the sky and on the horizon for any sign of predators, such as hawks or jackals. Satisfied that no one is looking at him for a meal, Xazirit begins working on the burrow. Stroke after stroke, his long claws get the work done quickly. After shaking himself clean and dry, he climbs up the old acacia, a big tree standing next to the burrow. Its a little odd, but Xazirit is a good tree climber. He had to be, or else he would have never lived through the drought. Xazirit starts to doze off, but he keeps himself awake. A snoozing, lone meerkat is the perfect meal for a predator. He sees a lizard, and nimbly leaps onto it and kills it. He soon gets bored of the tree, and hops down off of its branches. He remains in the shade, though, for the midday heat burns him. He awaits a female to pass through his territory.

Sarah wakes up from her bolt hole and comes outside. Sarah tans her eautiful brown fur. she passes through the Kalihari and sees a male alone in his own territory.

Xazirit lifts his head. He sees a female. Wondeful! He scurries over to her. He still keeps his distance, though. She might not want him around. But still....He makes a decision and goes up to her. He is clearly bigger than her, and decides to groom her. He darts behind her and grooms her back. Perhaps things are finally looking up for Xazirit. Now he could have a mate and a mob.

Sarah grooms the male back. she has really lucked out. If she can start a mob she may have a chance of survival.

Xazirit bobs his head around, and sees the burrow. He pokes the female gently with his nose, and starts walking toward his burrow. He would rather have his own comfy bed than sleep in a stranger's. Of course, the female probably wants that, too, but Xazirit does not pause to think as he leads the way.

Sarah follows curiously and a little nervous. She forgets her fear and looks up at the sky while walking.

As Xazirit reaches his little burrow, he turns around and looks at Sarah coming over. He climbs the tree, but he does not know that the average meerkat cannot climb this tree. He stands up and looks around for danger.

What would soon meet Xazirit's eye is Abigail, a lone female. She had been permanently evicted from her native mob, and after many failed attempts at starting a new one, she had wandered here, in the hopes of being excepted. She looked around for the dominant female, and when she spots her, she grooms her as an act of submission and peace.

Xazirit sees that Sarah his mate has already accepted Abigail. Well, not his mate yet. But she will be soon. Xazirit grooms Sarah a little, and tries to convinve her to nget into the mating position.

Xazirit then mates with Sarah. After mating, Xazirit grooms her some more and then looks around for predators. Suddenly, he sees a goshawk. He calls the alarm and rushes into the safety of the burrow.

Sarah also darts for the borrow. after a minute she pops her head out. It is gone. she slowly walks out.

Xazirit also cautiously emerges from the dark tunnels of the burrow. He lifts his head up and looks in many directions. Satisfied that there is no danger, he starts to look for food.

Winnie spots the group. Shes very happy to have found them now that her old mob is knowhere to be seen. The walks up to the group hopeing to be accepted by the dominant female. She lays down in a submissive way.
