Waking Up

After the long night's sleep Monty had last night, he was ready to go. Well....not just yet. He was still lying on his patched side, in the soft, warm grass, enjoying every second of sleeping. A rustle in the bushes nearby made him nervously awake, and he sat up, twitching his enormous ears and nose. After identifying the noise maker as a harmless mouse, Monty laid back down. But now, once he had awoken, he would not get back to sleep. So Monty stood up, and stretched lazily, waiting for the rest of the pack to come. He wasn't exactly that sociable, but he enjoyed having company, especially his family, so today he would not wander off.

As the sun slowly made its way over the horizon, a dark figure was outlined. This dark figure lowered its head to sniff at the ground as the saucer-shaped ears perked forward. The slender body began to track a suspiscious scent, an intruder. Her paws moved swiftly as she neared yet another figure, a male.
As the sun was fully exposed in the sky, but not yet in the center, their painted bodies were revealed. The alein-like dogs were about four feet away, the female lowering her head again. What she didn't realize was that this male was a subordinate in her pack. Curling her furry lip up, she revealed her large canine teeth.
This alpha female was known for her excellent fighting skills, the reason she usually kept her head low to the ground. If the male were to attack, she would easily have access to his exposed neck or belly. Her tail flipped up in its normal dominant position. A rumbling from her throat began to sound as she growled toward the male, not sure whether he was friend or foe.

Monty's satellite-like ears picked up growling from behind him. He swiftly turned his lean body around to face the distraction and saw a large female, her head toward the ground, and her growling was loud in his sensitive ears. Monty's strong nose twitched, picking up the scent particles and establishing that the female was actually his dominant female, Nyx. Monty lied down, and flipped onto his back, being submissive to the alpha female. Besides, she was larger than him and he didn't want to start a fight. That wouldn't be good, and Monty wanted to stay in the group, at least for today. He groveled some more, awaiting Nyx's response, hoping she would not attack.

The time of the day was early, but not too early for the sun was fully exposed in the sky. It warmed the dominant female's body as the gentle sun rays hit her body, awaking all her senses. The green grass began to stick up under her paws, for it had been forced to lay down from the strong winds that night. Her eyes were locked on the male she was growling toward as he stood there.

As the brute turned around, the fae's body tensed as her growl held steady. She was slightly confused when he plopped over on his back, exposing his delicate belly to her. She shook her head, as if to get her nose working, and slowly stopped her growling. She stood there for a few more seconds, gathering information from her nose.

Her senses now told her this submissive male was one of her subordinates, which explained why he had not picked a fight. She slowly rose her head to normal level, keeping her lip curled up. She acted as if she had not made a mistake, trying to cover up her obvious stupidity.

As she neared the brute, she lowered her head once again and hovered over him. She nipped his side once, to make sure he knew who was boss. Licking her chops, she eased up off of him and sat down a few inches away. Looking toward the sun, they would have to go hunting when it was near the center of the sky.

After Nyx had inspected Monty and given him a nip on the side just to show who was boss, he got up, body crouched, tail between his legs. He slithered away, averting his eyes from reaching Nyx. After reaching a cofortable distance, he dropped his posture. Monty stood straight up again, and listened for any suspicious sounds with his sensitive ears. He walked around, mingling with the pack. He layed down near a bush and rolled onto his back, his brushy tail laying limp, his long forelimbs in the air. He closed his eyes and sat there, being very still and quiet. Monty found this peaceful and he loved it. After a few moments, he rolled onto his stomach energetically and stood up. He shook the dead grass from his fur and sniffed around everyone, quite bored.

Alvia's soft paws pounced about the grass, her playful manner was amusing to the other members of the pack, as they watched she pounced to and fro, occasionaly catching a small bug or two with her tiny paws. She rolled over in a shady spot and gazed at the perfect sky. With a long sigh she closed her eyes for a soft gentle nap.
